About the Family Development Centre
The University of the West Indies-Family Development Centre was established in September 2009 as a research and development centre. Its primary aim is to improve current data on family and child development in the region using innovative approaches and multi-disciplinary research methodologies.
To be the leading institution in the Caribbean for advancing education and creating knowledge through excellence in teaching, research, innovation, public service, intellectual leadership and outreach to support the inclusive (social, economic, political, cultural, environmental) sustainable development of the region.
To conduct research to support and sustain a greater understanding of the diverse factors within families, communities and institutions that influence the growth and development of children; to offer a range of services to empower families, support governments and advocate for the rights of the child in the Caribbean region.
